Which one to buy - LCD or LED laptops?

LED of now is the second phase of LCD screen laptops. Though both appear to be the same flat screen display there are basic technological difference between them that is known to the computer technical support professionals. The basic difference between LCD and LED is the lighting technology.

LCD screens are based on CCFL technology where it allows the light to generate and pass through the screen to make the image bright enough to make it perfect for display. But in the LED, though based on same technology, the basic process of light passing through the display is different. The technical support professionals are the best to enlighten you in this aspect.

The LCD screens don’t have light emitted by themselves from the screen but the process is such that the molecules move with in an electrical field in reaction to the lights that passes through the screen. This in process helps the screen to block the backlight that the screen uses.

Power usage of LED vs. LCD laptops

Both LED and LCD or CCFL displays use small in-built lamps that produce the back light of the screen. The specifically designed screens made of Cold cathode fluorescent screens make use of the alternating current to light the bulbs in CCFL screens.

The laptop takes in the direct current to light the display thus the inverter present in CCFL screens regulate and reduces the energy competence of the screen. But in case of LED screen, they take the current from the diodes to produce the light for the display. The energy that is used by LED laptop screen is much lesser in comparison to LCD laptop screen. This would help you to run the laptop for a long time on a single battery charge.

The difference in Size

The inbuilt inverter in CCFL screens makes it bulkier than the LEDs. But this may not mean that the LED screens are smaller. There are certain specific screens that make difference and are bigger.

The difference they make on Environmental Concern

On an average the tech support recommends that LEDs are more environment-friendly. The florescent lights that are present in the LCDs contain mercury that may harm the ecology by mixing into the ground water once they are disposed to the landfills. Moreover, the LED consumes less electricity than the LCDs.

The difference in the Color

CCFLs are responsible for the white light that it creates and the color part of the screen is all produced by the LCD. But in case of LEDs it generates the colored light by itself and hence creates an intense and higher infiltration of color on the screens.

The Difference it makes on vision

The vision of both the LED and LCD is same when they are viewed from any angles. They behave in the same way when you use your laptop under bright sunlight. If your screen has a matte effect, the glare will be less in comparison to the glossy finish that renders vibrant colors.
