In the recent past India's largest car manufacturer Maruti Suzuki has launched its new variant of its popular hatch Swift in both petrol and diesel variants. Maruti Swift price for the petrol variant begins at Rs 4.2 lakh while the diesel variant of the hatchback has been priced starting at Rs 5.17 lakh. The new variant of the small car by Maruti is available in 6 variants, three each of petrol and diesel. The three petrol versions are; LXi, Vxi and ZXi. On the other hand the diesel variants are LDi, VDi and Zdi. These days Maruti India is struggling for diesel engines. This struggle unables the auto biggie to deliver the new Swift on time. Hence the delivery of Maruti's popular hatchback highly depends on the diesel engine supply. Maruti India borrows the engine from Fiat under the hood of joint venture between both. The sales of car have seen a negative growth of 1.5%, but strangely the demand of the diesel car has crossed a new high at 22%.

Being powered by 1.2 L K series petrol engine the new Maruti Swift has a displacement of 1998cc. The engine is packed with a 16 valve light weight DOHC that helps to reduce the friction and improves durability. Further the engine is highly fuel efficient with 14.4 kmpl of mileage in the city roads and 18.6 kmpl on the highways. Where as the diesel variant is powered by a 1.3 L DDiS engine with a displacement of 1248 cc. This diesel engine is also a fuel efficient that offers the mileage of 22.9 kmpl in the city roads and 23.8 kmpl on the highways. Both the variant of the car are endowed with 5 Speed manual transmission gearbox.
