college algebra

In today’s session we are going to discuss about the college algebra. We also know the college algebra as high school algebra. Here we are going to learn several topics of mathematics such numbers, polynomials, inequalities, sequences, many types of functions and also about sum and how to solve all these problems.

If we practice all the problems related to them it generally improves our mental ability. So here are the topics which come under college or high school algebra:

1.       SETS: A set is a collection of things of the certain property in common. For example types of flowers could be a set like rose, lily, and lotus. The curly brackets are used to define a set.

2.       NUMBERS: In mathematics we have various kinds of numbers, which are:

i.            Prime Numbers and Composite Numbers

                              ii.            Whole Numbers

iii.            Integer Numbers

                              iv.            Rational and Irrational Numbers

                              v.            Real Numbers

                              vi.            Imaginary Numbers

                             vii.            Complex Numbers etc...

3.       Inequalities: Inequality simply refers to “Not Equal”. Two quantities are unequal if they have a relation where one quantity is less than/greater than equals to/less than equals to, to the other quantity. For example 5>3

4.       Exponents: The exponent is simple a number which tells us how many times we have to multiply the number with itself. Example 7^2 that means we multiply 7 two times as 7*7.

5.       Polynomials: A polynomial is a kind of equation we can say. It consists of some terms that are only subtracted, sum up or multiplied. For instance 4xy + 3x – 4, this polynomial has three terms.

6.       Equations: Equations are one of the main parts of mathematics. An equation tells us that two quantities or terms are equal. They have a form like 4x +2 = 20 etc.

7.       Graphs: Graph gives a great way to see what is going on and it helps us in solving problems easily. In college algebra we learn about Cartesian coordinates, Pythagoras theorem, distance between two points, and also graphs for the equations which are solved by the graphs.

8.       Linear equation: A linear equation is a type of equation which shows an equation of straight line. It has a form y = 3x + 1.

9.       Functions: A function is simple thing which relates an input to the output. We use f(x) to represent a function.

10.   Exponents and Log Problems: As above mentioned that exponent tells us how many times we need to multiply a number, whereas the logarithms says that haw many of a number is multiplies to get another number for instance 2^? = 16

                                                                                    2^4 = 16

                                                                                   Log2 (16) = 4.

11.  Probability: This tells us about the probability of happening of an event.

Probability of happening an event = Number of ways in it can happen / Total number of outcomes
